Kazmi recovering, guard in critical state
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Religious Affair Hamid Saeed Kazmi is recovering in hospital after surviving in an assassination bid yesterday. However, his bodyguard is in critical state.

Terrorists hit Minister for Religious Affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi, injuring him and killing his driver, just a few yards away from his office and the Aabpara Police Station, on Wednesday.

Two gunmen, riding a motorbike and wearing helmets, opened fire with two pistols on the minister’s staff car on the Shaheed-e-Millat Road near the Polyclinic Hospital. A gunman of the minister, Muhammad Ashraf, who was sitting in the front seat of the car, sustained multiple bullet injuries.

He fired in retaliation but his shots hit the ceiling of the car. Driver Mohammad Younus died on the spot when several bullets hit his head.

Kazmi, who was sitting in the rear seat of his official car (GB 270 ICT), received bullets on his legs. He was immediately shifted to the Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH), where he was operated.

According to hospital spokesman, federal minister is improving after yesterday’s attack and he has gained consciousness completely. He expressed hope that Hamid Saeed Kamzi will discharge from the hospital within two days.

However, the driver of federal minister Ashraf still in a critical condition and admitted in Intensive Care Unit.
