Milk prices soar countrywide

ISLAMABAD: After rise in electricity, flour and sugar prices, now its turn of milk prices to get increment.

The prices of milk and yogurt have been increased unannounced in federal capital and now milk is available at the rate of Rs.50/litre instead of Rs.40/litre. The price of yogurt has been increased Rs.10/kg whereas packet of milk is available at Rs. 58 to Rs.60/litre instead of Rs.53/litre.

Islamabad management has failed to chalk out the strategy to stop the increase in prices of daily use items.

DOR Lahore Zulfiqar Ghuman told Geo News that official rate of milk is Rs.38/litre and yogurt Rs.42/kg in Lahore; however, milk is available at Rs.45/litre and yogurt at Rs.50 to 55/kg.

In Peshawar, official rate of milk is Rs.32/litre but it is not available in the market. According to milk shop owners, the milk sold at official rate is not suitable to consume. The milk is available in the market at Rs.50/litre.

The "courage" of British authorities in persisting with the prosecution of the airline bomb plotters has been praised. The verdicts were a vindication of Britain's intelligence efforts, former security minister Tony McNulty said. Space clown' ready for blast-off

Space tourist and circus entrepreneur Guy Laliberte is set to begin his journey to orbit. The Canadian billionaire will sit in the right-hand seat of the Soyuz craft which blasts off to the International Space Station (ISS). Mr Laliberte has described his flight as a "poetic social mission". He says he will make the ISS astronauts laugh during his 12-day stay, and produce a web event that highlights the issue of clean water for all. He is accompanied in the Soyuz TM-16 spacecraft by Russian cosmonaut Maksim Surayev and US astronaut Jeffrey Williams. Lift-off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan is timed for 0714 GMT.
